The 20th Firefighters’ Conference was held in Opatija on 26 and 27 March 2026. Under the motto “Tradition of Knowledge”, the conference brought together around 500 firefighters and experts of various profiles from both Croatia and abroad.
This year, the conference was attended by the head of the fire protection department at the University of Security Studies, M.Sc. Dario Gaus, and alumni of the University of Security Studies, M.Sc. Ante Bilandžić.
Professor Gauš presented the topic entitled “Managing an Event – The Illusion of Control”
while Ante Bilandžić presented two professional papers entitled:
“One Intervention – Multiple Commanders? Challenges of Command and Coordination between Emergency Services in Complex Emergency Situations”
“Cooling, Foam or Withdrawal? Making Tactical Decisions in Flammable Liquid Tank Fires”
These are topics that encompass current challenges in firefighting, the application of new technologies and tactics, and the importance of teamwork, protecting firefighters’ health and their safety during interventions.
