BINA-ISTRA d.d. and ECCOS Inženjering, winners of the Croatian Grand Safety Award 2024 for the project “Second tube of the Učka tunnel”
At this year’s awarding of the Croatian Grand Security Award 2024, the prestigious award for the Most Representative Security System Project was deservedly won by BINA-ISTRA d.d. and ECCOS Inženjering d.o.o. for his innovative project “The second tube of the Učka tunnel”.
Croatian Big Security Award 2024 – The most representative security system project – BINA- ISTRA d.d. was awarded. and ECCOS Inženjering d.o.o. for the project Second tube of the Učka tunnel.
The new tube of the Učka tunnel, 5630 meters long, is equipped with the most advanced safety systems that ensure not only the functionality of the tunnel, but also the safety of all users. Key systems for power supply, lighting, signaling, ventilation, fire protection, communication, video surveillance and advanced systems for traffic management and signaling are installed.
Croatian Grand Safety Award – Functionality of the Učka tunnel
One of the key aspects of this project is the latest generation cameras, which use video analytics based on artificial intelligence (AI). The cameras cover every meter of the tunnel and automatically detect any traffic disturbances, such as stopped vehicles, driving too slow or too fast, pedestrians on the road, traffic congestion, reduced visibility, loose cargo or driving in the opposite direction. These advanced systems allow operators in the control center to respond quickly to incidents, thereby increasing safety in the tunnel.
In addition to safety functionality, cameras also provide detailed statistical insights into traffic conditions, such as traffic density or average vehicle speed. The tunnel is also equipped with LED lighting that provides energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting along its entire length, with the possibility of adjusting the light between indoor and outdoor conditions.
The ventilation system of the tunnel is another key segment of the project. Equipped with bidirectional impulse fans that are connected to air quality sensors, the ventilation ensures optimal air quality in all conditions. In the event of a fire, the ventilation system switches to a special mode of operation for smoke control, which enables safe evacuation and damage reduction.
Additionally, variable traffic signals enable more efficient traffic management, both under regular conditions and in case of incidents, ensuring the safety of tunnel users in all situations. All these technologies are connected by the Epsimax application, which enables constant monitoring and management of security systems and continuous data analysis.
The Second Tube of the Učka Tunnel project demonstrates an extraordinary level of expertise and technological innovation in the field of safety systems, setting new standards in safety, efficiency and comfort for all tunnel users. This is why this project is deservedly recognized as the most representative security system project in Croatia for the year 2024.
The award was accepted by the President of the Management Board of BINA-ISTRA d.d., Dario Silić, and the Director of ECCOS Inženjering, Krešimir Paić.
Croatian Grand Safety Award – Conclusion:
The project “The second tube of the Učka tunnel” is not only a technologically advanced undertaking, but also represents an exceptional contribution to the safety and efficiency of the transport infrastructure in Croatia. Thanks to innovative safety solutions, this tunnel sets new standards for future projects.
