Graduate students from the course Protection from Terrorism and undergraduate students from the course Private Security of the Polytechnic of Security Studies participated in fieldwork at the IKEA department store. This visit was an exceptional opportunity to gain practical knowledge and insight into the real security systems and policies of a renowned global company.
What did the students have the opportunity to learn?
During the visit, IKEA experts presented:
Modern security systems they use to protect visitors and employees.
Approaches to security policy, including standards and procedures.
Challenges and innovations in everyday business, with a focus on security.
Special emphasis was placed on connecting theoretical knowledge with practical examples. Students learned firsthand how security standards are implemented in large organizations like IKEA.
Why is this experience significant?
Fieldwork allows students to understand how security concepts, which they learn during lectures, are applied in practice. Such experiences play a key role in their professional preparation, providing them with knowledge and skills that they will use in their future careers.
A big thank you to IKEA for the hospitality and valuable information shared with our students. This experience once again confirms the importance of collaboration between academia and the business sector in educating future security professionals.
