This year, the 20th Management and Safety Conference was held on 15 and 16 August in Niš, Serbia. This jubilee edition of the conference, which has been held continuously since 2006, was also an opportunity to summarize the significance and reach of the conference so far.

It was emphasized that over the twenty years of its existence, the conference has gathered a total of 2,775 participants and that a total of 814 papers have been presented at its editions so far, which are being reviewed, categorized and published in proceedings. The Polytechnic of Security Studies recognizes the importance of this conference, which is confirmed by the participation of numerous teachers and students as authors of papers throughout the years of the conference. It should be noted that Dr. Sc. Darko Palačić is one of the 4 authors who participated in all 20 editions of the conference.
This year’s conference had two topics: “Climate Change and Safety” and “Organization of Events and Safety”, and the VSS once again provided a significant scientific and professional contribution, with our teachers, students and alumni presenting their papers as well as contributing as a co-organizer of the conference.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Ana Rački Marinković, after the opening speech of the organizers and editors-in-chief, welcomed those present in front of the Polytechnic of Security Studies as a co-organizer of the conference and held an invitational presentation on the topic “Development of the fundamental human right to a healthy environment through legal disputes related to climate change” in which she presented the development of this new human right and the prerequisites for realizing protection, the content and characteristics of this right arising from the most important judgments in disputes related to climate change, emphasizing the collective dimension of realizing this right.
Head of the Chair for Occupational Safety, Ph.D. Darko Palačić presented a paper entitled “Impact of climate change on occupational health and safety – an overview of risks and opportunities”, and student Marina Ferenčak presented a paper co-authored with Ph.D. Mirsadom Ćehić on the topic “Statistical determination of climate change factors in the EU: Analysis of trends and impacts”.
Also, Matea Kuzel, mag. Eng. Sec., Ph.D. Darko Palačić and Mirjana Kralj Kopić, M.Sc. Sec. participated with a paper on the topic “Impact of green technology implementation on worker health and safety: trend review and impact analysis”, while student Ana Buha and Ph.D. Mirsada Ćehić presented on the topic “From consumption to contribution: household energy efficiency and renewables driving sustainable development”.
On the second day of the conference, Ivana Spahija, M.Sc. Sec., co-authored with Ph.D. Mirsada Ćehić, presented the paper “Local solutions, global impact: Zeleni grad Šibenik d.o.o. and the fight against climate change through efficient waste management”, and student Filip Kovačić presented the paper “Health and safety key performance indicators in corporate sustainability – a new dimension of evaluating occupational health and safety performance”, which he prepared in co-authorship with Ph.D. Darko Palačić and Tomislav Katić.
Furthermore, Ph.D. Mirsada Ćehić and Vlatka Ogulinac, M.Sc. Sec. presented on the topic “ISO 14001: a catalyst for climate action, reputation, and competitiveness – evidence from survey research”, while Mirjana Kralj Kopić, mag. Eng. sec. Marijana Leontić, Univ. M.Sc. Eng. chem. and Matea Kuzel, mag. Eng. sec. participated in the work on the topic “Smart cities in the era of climate change: the path towards a sustainable future”.
The “Management & Safety 2025” conference once again confirmed its importance as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience and as an incentive for the further development of safety practices and research. The Polytechnic of Security Studies will proudly continue to contribute to this important event and looks forward to future editions of the conference.
